Article on a Councillor

During one of my lecture’s, our tutor organised for a Councillor from the City of Moonee Valley, Jan Chantry, to come speak to us in order for us to learn a little bit more about the structure and governance of Local Government. As she spoke to us about her role and Moonee Valley’s plans etc., we were asked to write down notes in order to be able to write an article on something of public interest. I managed to write a four paragraph story of something that I believe the public (particularly those in the Moonee Valley area) would find interesting.

Four Paragraph Story:

Moonee Valley Councillors hope to showcase the City’s artistic talent

The City of Moonee Valley is turning a ‘blind eye’ in investing art installations, after plans to introduce an artistic culture in the area fell flat.

In a bid to resemble some of Melbourne’s most creative suburbs, Moonee Valley Councillor, Jan Chantry, believes the art plan will allow for more “individual expression” within the community.

“The Council has spent a lot of money on reconstructing sporting grounds, and not everyone is talented in those areas. The Art and Culture Plan allows for more diversity within the community,” said Cr Chantry.

Cr Chantry hopes for some of Moonee Valley’s streets to showcase artistic laneways, murals and photography work, despite concern from residents in Essendon and Strathmore.
